This Week Was Sew Fun

Another Sew Fun week is over. It was great seeing all of you, and your show and tell at the different stores. Even though Sew Fun week is a long, tiring, week, I always have a wonderful time.

I just wanted to tell those of you that didn’t make it to Sew Fun about one of my favorite books from this week. The Strip Your Stash book, by Gudrun Erla, features twelve dynamic quilts made from 2.5 inch strips, or you can use your favorite jelly roll. The directions in this book are very easy to follow and give you options for making the quilts in multiple sizes. You don’t need any special tools or rulers for these quilts. Just a sewing machine and a 1/4 inch foot. These quilts lean a little way towards modern quilts.

I made the quilt Pixie Stix. Instead of using a jelly roll, I cut my own 2.5 inch strips from four Coca Cola fabrics. Only using four directional fabrics meant I had to plan out my blocks a little more than I would have had I used a jelly roll, but I think the result was worth the extra planning. I named my quilt “Hashtag Coca Cola, the best! Don’t forget to name and label your quilt.

I also made the quilt Pixie Wheels. I loved the quilt and since I was using fabrics from my “resource center,” (very large stash, lol), I didn’t have quite enough fabric to make the lap sized quilt, so I made a bed runner. This quilt would be a great use of your 2.5 inch scrap squares.

The quilt Pebbles requires very little background fabric, and would be a super 2.5 inch square stash buster. The lap sized quilt uses 640 squares, and only 3/4 yard of background. I like making quilts using up my stash of left over squares, and donating those quilts to charity. It’s a great way to get rid of your fabric and give back to the community.

Have a great month everyone. Don’t forget Sew Fun in June is a week later, so we can host the Anita Goodesign parties in our stores. So we will see you all again June 21-24.
