My First Experience at Rocky Mountain Sewing’s September Sew Fun Event!

by Bianca Colombi, posted on

As an intermediate sewist who has never before participated in sewing events, I recently had the opportunity to attend Rocky Mountain Sewing’s much-anticipated Sew Fun gathering. The event is a cherished occasion where local sewing enthusiasts gather to talk about all things sewing, quilting, and embroidery. Here’s a recap of my first-time experience at Sew Fun:

Upon entering, I was welcomed into a room filled with the sewing machines and a contagious excitement for creativity. While non-members are more than welcome to attend, the event is free to RMSV Discount Card Members. Besides attending Sew Fun events for free, the membership offers an array of other enticing perks such as:

  • Monthly Seminars: These seminars are led by skilled sewists, and they cover a wide range of topics, ensuring that there’s always something new to learn and explore.
  • Exclusive Discounts: Members get access to special discounts on products featured in the presentations, which is a fantastic way to stock up on sewing essentials or discover new materials.
  • Door Prizes: The potential for prizes added an extra layer of excitement to the event. Who doesn’t love the chance to win something special?
  • Welcome Gift: As a new member, I was pleasantly surprised to receive a thoughtful welcome gift, making me feel right at home in this creative community.
  • Discount Card: The discount card provided ongoing savings, sweetening the deal for regular attendees.

Additionally, Discount Card members can take advantage of discounts at local fabric stores and quilt shops; not only is this a great deal, but a great way to help support local businesses. If becoming a RMSV Discount Card Member interests you, you can click here to get your membership today!

The highlight of the evening was the captivating presentation by this month’s speaker, Rosemary, a talented sewist who showcased an array of holiday-inspired projects. She began by sharing Tilda doll design books filled with charming patterns all perfect for the upcoming holiday season. Rosemary’s own creations, inspired by these designs, circulated through the class, sparking our imaginations.

Rosemary gave us insight to her creative process, revealing the intricacies of her projects and the materials she used. One standout was the Merino Wool Doll Hair from Tilda, a unique touch that added character to her dolls.

Switching gears, Rosemary introduced us to three captivating sewing patterns: the Geo Dress/Tunic by Olive Ann Designs, the Santa Rosa Top and Dress by Liesel and Co, and the Snapshot Bag by Annies. Each pattern showcased different styles and techniques, appealing to a variety of tastes.

Embroidery enthusiasts were not left disappointed, as Rosemary unveiled the Kimberbell Sweet as Pie Bench Pillow, which she ingeniously transformed into a charming table runner. She also introduced us to the delightful Harvest Wishes quilting charm pack, which was available for purchase at the event. And we of course can’t have an embroidery segment without sharing some new seasonal OESD files! Rosemary shared her creative twist on the Freestanding Terrifying Tower and Freestanding Bats; newly released files perfect for the holiday season.

Tools are the backbone of any sewing project, and Rosemary did not disappoint in this department either. She presented us with the ingenious Sew Straight and Triangle Square Plus tools from Quilt in a Day, which promised to simplify our quilting projects.

As the evening progressed, Rosemary encouraged the class to participate in the Sew and Tell segment; a part of the class where attendees get to share their recent creations. It was heartwarming to see the variety of sewing projects brought to life by fellow attendees, further cementing the sense of camaraderie and shared passion within the Sew Fun community.

Overall, my first experience at Rocky Mountain Sewing’s Sew Fun event was an absolute blast. It’s not just an event; it’s a gateway to a vibrant and welcoming sewing community. With its engaging presentations, discounts, prizes, and, of course, the delicious snacks, it’s an absolute must for anyone passionate about sewing, quilting, and embroidery. I can’t wait to return for more inspiration and fun!
