More June Buzz: June Sew Fun and Quilt, Craft and Sewing Festival

by Cathy Ellsaesser, posted on

June just got busier! We are just wrapping up the one-day Anita Goodesign events at the store, and now it’s time for June Sew Fun. Then, after Sew Fun, we’ll be packing up stuff to take to Castle Rock for the Quilt, Craft and Sewing Festival, June 28 -20, 2018.

Here’s a sneak peek at a couple of the items our Sew Fun presenter will tell you about, and some information about the Quilt, Craft and Sewing Festival.

June Sew Fun

Photographs and step-by-step instructions guide you through the essential techniques, showing you how to set up your machine, how to adjust the settings to get the best results on a range of different fabrics, and how to edge your fabrics quickly with perfect results. Try out different feet for your machine to help with gathering, attaching piping, elastic, and beading. Within the chapters there are troubleshooting tips and quick fixes for skipped stitches, snapped threads, and uneven stitching. The quick construction section will take you through a range of projects to help practice and perfect your skills.

This book is jammed packed with helpful information, beautiful illustrations and step-by-step instructions from first setting up your serger, to troubleshooting to projects you can complete with your serger.  It’s a book that everyone who owns serger should have in their sewing studio!

Jelly Roll Rug

Photo of Jelly Roll Rug pattern for June Sew FunWe can have a race with a jelly roll, so why not a rug? Create a colorful area rug using a jelly roll (a bundle which consists of 40-42 pieces of 2.5” x 42” strips) and 100% cotton batting. If you don’t have a pre-made jelly roll bundle, you can also create your own strips.

This patterns requires zero wrapping, braiding, weaving or crocheting – just pure sewing bliss! This trendy new pattern is easy to follow and a blast to make.  A standard jelly roll makes a rug approximately 30″ x 44″, but is also easy to adapt the instructions to make any size of rug you choose.

You will need a sewing machine that will make at least a 5mm wide zig-zag.

Look at some of the pretty rugs made with different jelly rolls. Wouldn’t these be cute made up with different holiday fabrics?

Come to Sew Fun to see what our presenter whipped up.
