Get Sew Organized Challenge for January 2020: Fabric

by Cathy Ellsaesser, posted on

Fabric organization is a real “bug-a-boo” for me, so I thought, let’s get it over with, and have it be our first area for our 2020 Get Sew Organized Challenge.

I mean, how do you organize fabric? By color, by theme, by type, by what?

Oh, and there’s so much of it to organize. Where do you keep it? In bins, in shoe boxes, in drawers, on hangers, where?

Oh, and how do you manage yardage, precuts, scraps, how?

Some Tools to Use

So we brought in to our store some notions that we thought the following items to help you “Get Sew Organized” with fabric.

Fabric Organizers

Yardage

These 10 x 14″ fabric organizers stores up to 10 yds of fabric without creasing. Use it to organize your fabric strips, binding, ribbon and more. There’s also a “shorty” version that is 7 x 10.5″. Tabs make storing large and small pieces a breeze and the cards are acid free and reusable.

We also got in some organizers for yardage that are designed for just one fabric rather than several.

Got Fat Quarters?

This fat quarter organizer neatly stores 1/2 yards or fat quarters, fat quarter bundles jelly rolls, strips, scraps, trim, ribbon, borders and much more. Your fabric is easy to find and ready to cut when you are ready to quilt.

If you want to just have one fat quarter per board, we have the 4 x 6 mini bolts for just that purpose.

Pre Cuts

We have a couple of precut organizer available as well.

I really like the fabric strip case to store my 2.5″ wide strips once they’ve been released from the jelly roll.

We also have some cases that are just perfect for 5 x 5″ charm packs, or your own scraps that you’ve cut into 5 x 5″ or smaller squares/rectangles.

I am so sorry. I made a mistake and jumped the gun on the drawing. The blog did say to post by Feb. 1. I’ll be announcing the Feb challenge on the 4th, so stay tuned. If you participate and post a picture, I’ll give you two chances to win (or three if you use one of the notions we bring in for the challenge) to make up for my mistake.
Thanks for bringing this to my attention.
