Sewing for the Seasons: Wow, fall is already here and the busy holiday season is just around the corner. This month I have a variety of new books and patterns to provide you with quick and easy ideas for holiday decorations and gifts. Debbie Mumm’s Home Comings has ideas for year round celebrations. There are project ideas for quilt, wall hangings, pillows, banners, table runners, decorations and more. With full material lists, full color instructions, and loads of tips, this is one book that you will definitely want. Next up is Art to Heart Sew Necessary by Nancy Halvorsen. Quick, easy and oh-so-necessary gifts for the fall are the theme of this book. There are pincushions, a wallet, thread catchers, and scissor chatelaine patterns to name just a few. And with fun themes to match Halloween, Christmas, springtime and more, how can you go wrong? You’ll make a dozen of these quick gifts before you know it. In the new rulers and notions department you will want to be the first have the Double Diamond rulers and some of the patterns designed just for this great tool. You can make table runners, toppers, straps, embellishments and more. Just take three fabrics, some fusible web, and this new ruler and you’ll have unique dimensional elements to add to all your projects. This month it’s about curved piecing. I have always loved The Drunkards Path quilt block – except for the cutting and sewing part. Elisa Wilson has great tips to simplify the process in her book Crazy Curves Continues. Simplify cutting with Elisa’s templates or it’s even easier when you use the Drunkards Path die and your Accuquilt Go cutting system. We will brighten things up with fast and fun table runners from Terrific Table Toppers with Patrick Lose. Top off the runners with Floriani metallic threads to add some sparkle. You will want to make a table runner for every occasion! And who doesn’t like cake! We have a “Slice of Cake Pincushion” by Cindy Taylor Oates. A fun project - and you can make any flavor cake – calorie free! Bring your projects (done or undone) for show and share. |

Sewing Consultant: November Sew Fun
The Holidays are upon us, but just in case you have not amassed enough gifts for everyone on your list, I will have some wonderful fast and easy projects that you can complete well before the due date! I don’t know about you, but on cold winter nights I just love lounging around in my jammies and robe, watching one of my Jane Austen flicks. Cindy Taylor Oates obviously had me in mind when she wrote “Any Season Robe” published by Taylor Made Designs. She has such fun and functional ideas from robes with ruffles and piping, to fuzzy and cuddly. She also includes a ruffled laundry bag (great for those college co-eds!) and an envelope travel bag. Next up is “Sew Serendipity” by Kay Whitt published by Krause Publications. Such fun designs for skirts, dresses, and jackets. She also gives you step by step instructions on measuring and making adjustments to the patterns for a custom fit. Kay includes great techniques, instructions, and ideas to help every seamstress. Then for those inclement days, I will be showing Amy Butler’s “Rainy Days Hooded Raincoat and Runabout Jacket” and “Little Splashes Hooded Raincoat and Runabout Jacket” to keep everyone from little girls to their grandmas dry. And, of course, since I like grommets; okay, maybe I should say because I LOVE grommets, I found some more new very classy holiday looking grommets from across the Atlantic, and some new patterns to go with them. I have even more great gift ideas, but you will need to attend to see them all! |
